Our first table

The next steps for the garage are work tables, more places for tools to hang out, and lights. This Sunday we completed a wall-flush work table. It is high enough so you can comfortably work at it while standing up. The criteria we used was that if you were to bend your elbows at 90 degrees in front of you as if you were holding something heavy, the table should be slightly lower than that. It became around 40 in high.

The design for the table is available on our dokuwiki here.

While we had a rough idea of what we wanted to do, before we started building and buying parts we took some time to plan out how we were going to build the table. That never panned out exactly as we had planned.

Solar System in our own garage! Compliments of Kelli

The piece to start it all. That's 8 feet wide

Now comes the fun part. Hmmm I love to cut with new blades

Cutting 45 degree angles here

Who needs paper and calculators?!

Now it's looking more like a frame.

Preparing the surface of the table, made up with a sheet of plywood and another sheet of a smooth laminated wooden board. No idea what it's called, but cheap at Home Depot.

Applying tape so edge of the cut doesn't get destroyed from crappy old blade

First nailing the plywood, then the shiny layer.

These braces don't actually do anything. The table is held up by dreams and puppy love

What you can't see here is that the middle one is higher than the others leading to a slightly wavy table.

Done!
Sturdy
and Pweety

Another area for a future date...
*shudder*
